Presenting the 2008 UK National 4X champion
If the racing had taken place just one week before, it would have been sun tan lotion Scott Beaumont was slapping on instead of his wet weather tyres, but this is Great Britain and the weather can be just that; British. The weekend of May the 17th and 18th was to be a double headed weekend of racing for Europe's largest 4X series as it rolled into the town of Bridgnorth. Saturday played host to round 2 of the UK 4X National Series followed by the 2008 National Championships the very next day. Saturday - National 4X series Round 2 With seven wins out of seven motos in round one, and a clean sweep of wins in the 2007 series Scott was the man to beat. With the weather deteriorating throughout the day, riders really needed to keep their focus in order to progress through to the finals and not get caught out by the wet track conditions. Scott rode solidly all day to secure his place in the final and lined up against Will Longden, Steve Taylor and Dave Wardell to do battle. Unfortunately Scott could not get the better of Will and came away in the silver medal position, but this result has strengthened his overall series position. Sunday - 2008 National 4X Championships This was the big one. So far the National Championship jersey had eluded Scott, and with his mantelpiece rapidly filling up with Silver and Bronze medals he was fired up to take the win. Scott progressed to the final as he had done the day before and took his place in the gate. The gate dropped and the riders sprinted into the first turn where Scott found himself squeezed out and trailing in third by a long way as he exited the turn; with the jersey so close, Scott got his head down and raced after Will Longden and Lewis Lacy. Scott passed Lewis and was closing on Will as they closed on the final turn and when Will exited wide, Scott slipped inside to take the win by half a wheel length. Your 2008 National 4X Champion is Scott Beaumont - Scott is powered by Rocky Mountain Bikes, RaceFace, e.thirteen and SDG. www.silverfish-uk.com
